Climate and the Environment

The City has done so much to advance policies that protect our communities from the impacts of climate change. Our community in particular was deeply impacted by the Aliso Canyon Storage leak and continues to be impacted by escalating wildfires. I support the goals in L.A.’s Green New Deal and will look to leaders on the City Council who have prioritized this issue as partners in this work. I have also been endorsed by Henry Stern and Pilar Schiavo, who have been heavily involved in the next steps regarding Aliso and intend to coordinate efforts with the State.

Transitioning to a clean energy economy - both to meet our mandated climate goals and for the sake of the future of our planet - must be done through blue to green pipelines. It is critical to do so in a way that doesn’t compromise the amount of energy our communities rely on and ensure we don’t do so on the backs of workers. With any transition, we must mandate that it is done with labor union project agreements, that we maintain the same or additional level of jobs and pay,  including investing in training folks for new jobs so they aren’t left behind. I know this is an opportunity to create more good paying jobs, so it can be a win-win.
